DJ Michael McPherson is in the Master of the Mix Finals!

Hey Florida!  I love to see good things happen to good people.  If you’ve been watching BET’s Master of the Mix you already know that Orlando’s own DJ Michael McPherson, formerly known as M-Squared, is in the finals.  Today we thought we’d start the year off the same way we ended it…winning!  The Florida State Seminoles gave us a victory over Notre Dame in the Champs Bowl on December 29, 2011 in Orlando, FL.  Now DJ Michael McPherson is poised to bring home another victory as BET’s Master of the Mix.  This time, however, it’s going to require some crowd participation.  We’re asking you to go to www.facebook.com/masterofthemix today and write on the wall.  Let the world know you’ll be voting for DJ Michael McPherson on January 8, 2012.

We got a chance to speak with Mr. McPherson on New Year’s Day.  He had just, undoubtedly, rocked a private Palm Island New Year’s Eve Party in Miami Beach with the who’s who of South Florida in attendance.  This is the norm for the Florida bred DJ.

HeyFla:  Alright, so how’s everything going?

DJ Michael McPherson [DJ MM]:  Everything’s going good on my end, thank you for asking and thank you for having me, man.

HeyFla: We’re more than happy to have you.  I’ve been excited about this.  This is my first time to sit down and talk with you to see how things have been going.  I know you’ve been busy so…let’s start there.  What’s been going on since Master of the Mix?

DJ MM:  Well, since we wrapped the show, I had gone out on the road with Kelly Rowland.  We’ve been touring internationally and domestically in support of her latest album, “Here I Am”.  We were in Dubai, a bunch of other spots and it was, uh…a good time.  A great, great experience.  …and also I’ve been doing a lot of different shows around the country.  I’ve been to Chicago, done some stuff with Maxim magazine…I’ve just been hitting the country and doing my thing.  We had a great listening party a couple weeks ago, or viewing party I should say, in Orlando.  It was an amazing turnout; a great, great night that night.  Orlando really came out and showed a lot of love that night.  So, I have to say thank you to everyone that came through.  It was an amazing night of just great music.

Right now, for New Year’s Eve, I just did a private show on Palm Island here in Miami Beach and that was incredible.  All of the who’s who in Miami came through last night and it was an amazing experience.  You know, just staying busy.

HeyFla:  So that means you’re just getting in then?

DJ MM:  Yeah, yeah (laughing), you know, recovering from the night, but it’s a blessing to be able to do what you love and make a living.

HeyFla:  Indeed.  So this is it man, this is it.  We’re down to the final round.

DJ MM:  Yes sir.

HeyFla:  I heard you say, on the last episode, that the $250,000 cash prize is right around the corner and you can taste it.

DJ MM:  That is correct.

HeyFla:  So, uh, what does $250,000 dollars taste like?

DJ MM:  Man, it tastes like money, man [laughing].  It’s right there and, for me, honestly, it’s not about the money.  It never has been.  It’s always been vibe over money.  It’s always been passion over money for me.  It’s more of the fact that I feel like I’m the most well rounded DJ on the show.  I feel like I have definitely demonstrated that.  I have proven that time and time again throughout all the challenges.  On January 7, 2012, on BET, make sure you guys are tuned in for that.  You will see, in the finale, how I bring it.  So, when it comes down to the votes on January 8th, you know to vote for me, Michael McPherson.

Michael McPherson Master of the Mix

HeyFla:  Indeed!  Absolutely!  You know you’ve got our vote here and we’re gonna tell all our people to support.

DJ MM:  Thank you.

HeyFla:  You know, one of the things I appreciate about you is that you’re down to earth.  Even with everything that’s going on, you still remain humble.  So with the comments and stuff floating around the internet about you guys–on everything from your performances to your personal style, do you ever get caught up in that?  …and if so how do you handle it?

DJ MM:  Thank you.  I’m human, so naturally, I would read the comments and would feel something, but I learned early on not to get consumed in that sort of thing.

HeyFla:  There’s no question you’re a very talented DJ.  To your credit, so far you have the 2010 USA Red Bull Thre3style National Championship; you’ve toured across the world as the official DJ for this R&B superstar you may have heard of–Kelly Rowland; you’ve earned the title of the No. 1 Party Rock DJ; and you have an endorsement from Monster Cable.  Tell us about that ride.

DJ MM:  That’s just been a true, tremendous blessing every step of the way.  I have to also thank my team that’s been with me, the Mood Designers – Marlon Holloway, Lechon Kirb, Stephanie V., Laraje, Tek the intern, Leo Clough and Natural Phil.  These guys help me keep the day to day, you know, everything afloat.  It’s a full unit here; it’s not a one-man show.   Yeah, you’ll see me DJ’ing and performing, but behind the scenes it’s like a group of like minds creating an experience, designing a mood.  So all of that goes into the entire product that you see.  It’s definitely been an amazing journey.  It’s just been an incredible blessing and I’m very grateful.
