Florida’s Strawberry Festival – A Sweet Event
Although it could simply stand on its own history, the Strawberry Festival, is an affair that grows more exciting every year! In fact, it has become one of the best festivals in the nation, ranking among the Top 40 Fairs in North America. Having maintained the same internal structure since its inception, the Florida Strawberry Festival is a community-oriented organization, governed by a board of directors from the community that devotes many hours to establishing policies and objectives for the annual event. Not only is it an outstanding showcase of the local area, the Florida Strawberry Festival has never been subsidized by taxpayers.
Every spring, the Florida Strawberry Festival welcomes visitors from more than just the Sunshine State! Visitors come from all over the country to see the exhibits. The fair doesn’t just feature strawberries, there are other types of exhibits – livestock, crafts, horticultural, even fine arts. It truly is a showcase of Americana, and surprisingly, much more contemporary than you’d think! There are social events, contests, youth developmental programs, parades and even free concerts! My favorite event is, of course, the 5K! Sampling all the offerings (like the strawberry shortcake) doesn’t feel so decadent if I’ve run first!…’cause there will be strawberry shortcake sampling!
This year’s, Strawberry Festival will be held from March 1 – 11th, 2012. Tickets went on sale in December, but can still be purchased until the day of attendance. Check out their website, you can even see all the names being added to their list of entertainment!!
The 2012 Strawberry Distance Challenge will be held on Saturday, February 18, 2012 at 7:30AM. See ya there!!
