HeyFLa met with the producers of Miserably Single, a hot new comedy webcast that follows the lives of five sexy single professional women in their search for compatible love interests. Like most Americans that were impacted by the recession, these women sought ways to stretch their dollar. Their solution, buying a house together (make that a dream house) with the last single woman standing keeping the keys. Interesting. In their pilot episode, centered on the speed-dating scene, what we find is that the pool is shallow and the sharks are lurking. How will these ladies ever survive?
As it is with most new ventures, the critics surfaced with their opinions. Val Gamble (Gamble Entertainment), Co-Producer of Miserably Single tells us that “It’s funny that the men are kinda like saying ‘Well, real men are not like that y’know. You guys are not portraying us the right way.” She quickly responds, stating “That was just one episode. We have so many things in store, so many different things that are going to happen for them (the men) as far as the women go. You just gotta stay tuned to see how their different characters progress.” For the most part, she tells us that the feedback has been great!
Charmion Sparrow, the show’s creator and writer, also plays the part of Monica, one of the lead roles on Miserably Single. Contona Thomas (C-LIVE Productions), the producer and driving force behind Miserably Single, tells us how he was first introduced to this project and how it came to fruition. Frustrated with the quality of work that was currently being produced and the lack of credible opportunities in the market, he decided to make a move. “I was like, ‘Val, we’ve got to do something” he told us. “It came back to me like, ‘Contona, we have this script.’ So now we’re talking about this a year later. I go back to the writer (Charmion Sparrow) and say, ‘Hey, you still got that script? How would you feel if…let me produce this script.’ Because I was trying to get her to let another company do this, she was like, cool.”
Just like that, the project began to grow legs. However, what is unique about this project is that many of the players involved hold a stake in the project’s success. The team of professionals that are involved in this project have made an investment of time and talent in exchange for a piece of the pie. This speaks volumes towards their faith in this body of work and its executors. They’ve created quite a little buzz in the Central Florida market and we are looking forward to seeing more from them.
