This ain’t no Disney Movie. Universal Pictures released it’s first trailer for the Summer 2012 release, Snow White & The Huntsman. But don’t you go looking for any dwarfs in this one. Actually, the only thing this movie comes up short on is originality. But don’t judge too harshly. Though the title gives away the story, after watching the trailer, even though it looks like Snow White, and it sounds like Snow White, it certainly has an identity of its own. Roth Films (Alice in Wonderland) may be the reason for this. If you liked what they did with that Classic starring the Johnny Depp, I’m sure you won’t be disappointed with what you find here.
This is definitely a studio movie. Take an Oscar winning beauty (Charlize Theron), a fast rising heartthrob (Chris Hemsworth), and add in the star power of the leading actress from one of the largest Movie Franchises of this decade (Kristen Stewart, The Twilight Saga) then stir. Magnifique! Well at least Universal shouldn’t lose any money on this project. I guess this dark twisted fantasy is the new standard with a rendition of Oz preparing to the hit the big screen in 2014. The two year spread should provide enough time to milk it for all it’s got. Something tells me this one is going to move a little slow though and not be as stirring as the trailer suggests. After all, we already can guess how it’s gonna end so the catch is just visual. I expect a stellar performance from Ms. Theron and the fan appreciation should be enough to carry the rest of the load. Whether or not I rush to the theater to see this will depend on it’s competition. The summer’s always a tough one for cinema and the movie goer. Check out the trailer and find yourself a soapbox.
