LeBron James (flu) a game-time decision for Heat-Lakers showdown
The Miami Heat may be without two of their Big Three.
As many expected, Dwyane Wade will not play Thursday against the Los Angeles Lakers because of a sprained right ankle. But LeBron James may also not be available. The Heat forward will be a game-time decision, as he left shootaround early with the flu.
Meanwhile, the Lakers — and James’ former coach — fully expect him to play.
“When you talk about great players like him, those guys even though they’re sick or a little injured or whatever, they find a way to perform at a high level,” Lakers coach Mike Brown, one of James’ former coaches with the Cleveland Cavaliers, said Thursday afternoon. “I don’t think it’s any different for LeBron.”
James played through the same sickness in Tuesday’s victory over the San Antonio Spurs, but his health began to regress Wednesday night.
“He didn’t feel good last night,” coach Erik Spoelstra said. “He feels a little bit more like he did two days ago. That bug has been going around.”
If Wade and James are unavailable Thursday, Chris Bosh will be asked to carry the load. The Heat have dealt with this scenario before this season, as they beat the Atlanta Hawks on Jan. 5 without Wade and James. Bosh scored 33 points and grabbed 14 rebounds in that game.
“It doesn’t pose any problems,” Bosh said. “We’re going to be missing them. But if it does happen, we’ve been in this situation before and we won the last game. We just have to do our job and do what we’re supposed to do.”
