Jackson’s Bistro
Looking back, our trip to Tampa was saved by the good folks at Jackson’s Bistro. My friends and I are always looking for something to do. We try to get around the state, visiting new places and meeting new people. We hadn’t been there in a while, so decided to revisit Tampa. The drive time from Orlando to Tampa can be about 1-2 hours depending on your route and destination, but because it was familiar territory we did minimal research—just hotel, nightlife.
Part of the excitement of a road trip is the adventure, especially when it’s spontaneous. We made it to Tampa in record time but quickly realized we should have scouted the restaurants before we got there. We had a dilemma! We were starving and determined not to visit any places with which we were familiar. While the locals give dependable reviews, this was no time for taking chances and we had no desire for fast food. Don’t get me wrong, I am usually pretty fearless with my food choices but not when I’m hungry. Faced with no other choice, we asked our front desk clerk “What’s hot?” He referred us to Jackson’s Bistro. “They have a variety of food from seafood and lamb to pasta and burgers.” That sounded good so we showered, changed and off we went.
When we got to Jackson’s Bistro the host greeted us and asked if we wanted to dine indoors or outdoors. The evening was cool and the sky was clear, so we sat outdoors. We made a choice from their fairly extensive wine list to accompany dinner and then realized that although the place was full, we were still able to sit comfortably and hear each other. Again we were hungry and so timing was our priority that evening, and we made sure our waiter was aware. In spite of the rushed nature of our order and subsequent meal, Jackson’s didn’t disappoint! Our waiter kept us entertained and additionally served as tour guide, answering our questions and pointing out the hotspots around town. Among other recommendations, he suggested that we return because Jackson’s on a Friday turns into a nightclub. Great suggestion! We did go out to two other nightclubs, but ended our night at Jackson’s!! In fact, we never should have left! Our trip to Tampa was a huge success, largely due to Jackson’s Bistro and Lounge. We didn’t get any special attention yet the entire staff exceeded our expectations, and it was clear everyone there felt the same. If you’re ever in the Tampa Bay area (right on the bay), Jackson’s is reasonably priced and offers more than just a quick meal. That’s this hungry girl’s recommendation!
