In the spirit of “Lord of the Dance”, or “Bring in da Noise, Bring in da Funk,” “Kings of Salsa” gets your heart pumpin’ and your feet tappin’!  You’ll look for an excuse to get out of your seat so you can dance along, but you don’t dare leave because you don’t want to miss anything!  Salsa moves are executed with the kind of precision that you expect for professional dancers but don’t exactly know if they are possible using a human body.

Choreographed by Roclan Gonzalez Chavez “Kings of Salsa” pays homage to great Cuban performers and dance styles but also adds a cool, contemporary twist.  It’s a fantastic mix of traditional Cuban dance (Mambo, Rumba, and Cha Cha) with salsa and hip hop.  Yes, the stage is full of old, clichéd and stereotypical background items (like an old painting of Che Guevara, for instance), and they are fitting (I guess) but absolutely unnecessary because the audience is mesmerized by the 8 member dancer troupe and 8-piece band as they perform–smoothly transitioning from one arrangement to the next.

If you truly enjoy dance, “Kings of Salsa” is a must see!!  The Latin rhythms and arrangements showcase a Cuba rarely seen before on stage, but certainly familiar and inviting.  These are, indeed, world class performers.  They represent the very best that Havana has to offer!!
