Speedweek began with qualifying for the 50th annual Rolex 24 at Daytona on the 3.56-mile, 12-turn road course last Thursday.  The course combines the track’s infield as well as NASCAR turns.  Drivers from across the world will compete in this race, which gets under way at 3:30 p.m. Saturday, January 28.  The 50th anniversary of the Rolex 24 At Daytona showcases the world’s best drivers competing for 24 hours.

Local drivers include Ryan Dalziel, Jon Miller and Bill Lester, of Orlando; Ricky Taylor of Apopka; and JC France, the grandson of NASCAR founder Bill France.  Also driving are NASCAR drivers Jamie McMurray, Juan Pablo Montoya, Michael Waltrip and AJ Almendinger.  There is a particular spotlight on another driver, “Grey’s Anatomy” star Patrick Dempsey, who has negotiated his contract with the show’s network so that he could include his racing schedule!!
